Lobola/Bride price turned into business

Good morning ladies and gentleman, i hope i find you well. I have an issue here which i want us to shade more light on. Like these days, as a young man, if decide that it's time you start a family, the first thing which comes into your mind is lobola/bride price. What really has change on the way it is being done today and the way it used to be done back in the days? Parents of these days seems to be so greedy, they are charging too exorbitant prices which ends up complicating the whole process. from my understanding, back in the days lobola/bride price was used as a way of accepting each other and build a relationship between two different families.
Is it not the major contributing factor to the high rate of divorces we are witnessing right now? For a man these days paying lobola/bride price is just as good as buying an asset, hence the ill-treatment of ladies by their husbands. Anyway, who introduced it and for what reason or intentions? What if i suggest that bride price be scratched of so that people can marry each other basing on love not their pocket status? You have a daughter , you have millions of dollars.
Feel free guys let's discuss this, what went wrong with our culture?
